A Probiotic Mouthwash Invented

A probiotic mouthwash has been invented by Prof. Behzad Houshmand, faculty member of Periodontics, the SBMU School of Dentistry, in order to treat gum and periodontal diseases. This invention is the result of two-year continuous efforts of Prof. Houshmand and his team in the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. This type of mouthwash is the first one in the world. Results of the clinical trial of this invention have been satisfactory, and this probiotic mouthwash is supposed to be mass produced in terms of a business model and introduced to the market in the near future. This product helps to treat gum diseases, fix bad breath and replace harmful micro-organisms with the useful ones in the mouth and gum.

The article on this invention has been published in the Iranian Journal of Biotechnology, and strains of the discovered microbe which have this type of probiotic characteristics have been patented in the name of Islamic Republic of Iran and relevant professors in the World Gene Bank.
